In 1997 I watched my mothers health start to seriously decline...Every joint began to swell and tighten up so that even the simple task of walking was almost impossible. It was so scary to watch my strong healthy mother start to loose her ability to function. She didn't feel good and could hardly move. We didn't what was wrong but knew it wasn't good. When she was diaganosed with Lupus it was a word I had never heard of, and the thoughts of my mom having such a devestating disorder made me sick. Lupus is autoimmune disorder where the body attacks its own tissues and organs. Nine out of ten people who have lupus are woman. It effects more Americans than cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, sickle-cell anemia, cyctic fibrosis and AIDS COMBINED...did you get that...COMBINED!!!! Soon after I learned one of my dearest friends was diagnosed also. For someone who add never heard the word lupus...I was quickly became famalir with this devestating disease and I am not going to lie...I HATE IT!!!! Lupus has brought much saddness to many people that I love and care for. Thats why I am so proud that Cierra Ashley is helping to raise funds for lupus research.
